Andrea Douglas, DNP, AGACNP-BC, is a board-certified nurse practitioner specializing in cardiac electrophysiology, with more than 15 years of nursing experience. Her career reflects a commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care, clinical innovation, patient advocacy, and professional education.

Dr. Douglas currently practices in the Electrophysiology Department at the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System, managing complex cardiac arrhythmias, implantable cardiac devices, and remote monitoring. Previously, she practiced at Michigan Medicine, where she developed extensive experience in electrophysiology, cardiology, and care of patients with complex cardiovascular conditions.

An advocate for quality improvement, Dr. Douglas has helped streamline electrophysiology workflows, standardize clinical documentation, and expand MRI access for patients with implanted cardiac devices. Her initiatives contributed to doubling weekly electrophysiology MRI appointment availability and reducing MRI clearance turnaround times by approximately 40–50%.

She also leads work addressing post-traumatic stress and anxiety following implantable cardioverter-defibrillator shocks, collaborating with mental health professionals to support patients beyond their immediate cardiac needs.

Education and mentorship are central to her professional mission. During her tenure as President of the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners Ann Arbor Chapter, she expanded membership, organized continuing education opportunities, and promoted professional engagement. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the AAVA Nurse Practitioner Group, supporting collaboration, advocacy, and professional development.

Her contributions have earned recognition through the 2026 ZOLL Lifesaving Award, the MICNP Educational Award, Michigan Medicine Making a Difference Awards, and an award for her work on PTSD associated with ICD shocks.

A graduate of the University of Michigan’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program, Dr. Douglas remains dedicated to advancing electrophysiology care, mentoring healthcare professionals, and improving outcomes through interdisciplinary teamwork. She believes exceptional nursing combines clinical expertise with empathy, education, and a lasting commitment to every patient’s well-being and dignity.
