In a recent interview, Dr. Mona Shahriari, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Yale University and associate director of clinical trials at Central Connecticut Dermatology, emphasized that many dermatologists are uncomfortable treating psoriasis in patients with melanin-rich skin, often leading to misdiagnosis or undertreatment. Shahriari points out that traditional dermatology training has lacked in this area, contributing to disparities in treatment. She also noted that social determinants to health, like geographic and economic factors, further hinder access to specialized care.
