Researchers reviewed the effects of exercise-based interventions on cognitive function in older individuals with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), specifically observing five databases as well as observational study results that have been published in the last two years.

It was found that treatment interventions that include exercise have been proven to improve several areas of cognitive function in patients with stable COPD. When people with COPD do not exercise, they tend to exhibit poor cognitive performance and experience an increase in the severity or exacerbations of the disease, especially in the presence of comorbidities.
