There aren’t many orthopedic residents who are women, and there are no data on gender diversity of residency classes. Researchers looked at various orthopedic department websites for a year to identify the gender composition of the faculty and residents; no correlation was found between the residency program directors’ gender, and more efforts need to be made to bolster the number and percentage of women applying for and training in orthopedic surgery.
