Sarah Scantamburlo, MSW, MS, PA-C, discusses the case of a 42-year-old Caucasian male who presented with a long-standing history of paranoid psychosis, auditory hallucinations, “chaotic disorganized thought processes,” multiple hospitalizations, and extreme bouts of physical aggression. With myriad challenges that persisted for years, developing a treatment plan proved difficult; however, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has allowed this patient to feel greater control over delusions, allowing him to spend time with friends and stay employed. He has also felt autonomous as well as excited about his future.
