Researchers investigated the impact of alcohol consumption on plaque psoriasis severity and quality of life in patients, using the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test. The severity of psoriasis was measured using the Body Surface Area (BSA) and Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scales, while the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) assessed the patients’ quality of life. Results showed that higher alcohol intake was associated with increased psoriasis severity (as indicated by higher PASI and BSA scores) and a decreased quality of life, and poor dietary habits were linked to more severe psoriatic lesions. The study concludes that an unbalanced diet, alcohol abuse, and smoking adversely affect the progression of psoriasis vulgaris, highlighting the importance of patient education in managing the condition.
