Would applying machine learning to clinical and quantitative CT imaging improve mortality prediction in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)? Among other methods, researchers used models in subjects with moderate to severe COPD from a subset of subjects in Genetic Epidemiology of COPD (COPDGene).

Results showed that performance of machine learning was similar to that of traditional statistical methods.
