A recent study revealed that European patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) have greater impairments in overall happiness and quality of life compared to those with psoriasis. Conducted across eight European countries, this multicenter research focused on assessing relationships between dermatological conditions like AD and psoriasis and their impact on life satisfaction, emotional well-being, and quality of life as measured by the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Researchers recruited adults with either condition, collecting comprehensive data via questionnaires on disease severity, well-being, and quality of life, supplemented by clinical data from healthcare professionals.
The study involved 1,039 patients, predominantly with psoriasis, from countries including Austria, Poland, Italy, Ukraine, Malta, Germany, Portugal, and Romania. It showed that patients with AD experienced higher DLQI scores, indicating a more significant negative impact on their quality of life compared with their psoriasis counterparts. Additionally, the researchers highlighted variations in disease severity and treatment across countries, suggesting that regional differences might influence patient experiences and outcomes.
