Researchers analyzed the significance of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) as a chronic and common gastrointestinal disorder. Traditionally, the management plan for IBS-D involved increasing dietary fiber intake, using opioids for diarrhea, and antispasmodics for pain management. However, a recent treatment guideline by the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) proposes a modified approach with eight drug recommendations and instructions on when to use them. The study concluded that, by following these structured AGA guidelines, a more tailored and focused approach to IBS management may become possible.
