A recent study from researchers at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden aimed to determine the association between clinical disease activity in psoriasis and future cardiovascular events. The researchers analyzed data from 767 patients with psoriasis and tracked their disease activity using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score.
The findings revealed that patients with higher PASI scores, indicating more severe psoriasis, had a higher risk of cardiovascular events compared with those with milder cases. The study’s results suggest that monitoring psoriasis disease activity using the PASI score could help identify patients at high risk for cardiovascular issues. Effective treatment of psoriasis may also play a role in reducing cardiovascular risk. The researchers concluded that their findings highlight the importance of considering psoriasis disease activity when assessing cardiovascular risk and providing appropriate interventions to mitigate future heart issues in patients with psoriasis.
